    ArtCOP21 Professional Workshop

    In the framework of the COP21 event, at the Gaîté lyrique on 3rd and 4th December, COAL, Julie’s Bicycle, IFACCA and On the Move will gather some 150 international key players from more than 25 countries to define together how the cultural sector can better embed sustainable development in its activities.

    This Professional Workshop is based on a series of preliminary reports and international recommendations. Based on an exchange of best practices, the workshop aims to reinforce cross-sectorial dialogues between various types of actors.

    The objective is also to highlight the necessity of a focused support and adapted funding mechanisms to ensure the leadership of the cultural sector with regards to sustainable development.

    Objectives

    – Facilitate a direct dialogue between policy makers and funders (arts councils, ministries, regional/city governments, foundations etc.) and the cultural/arts sector to exchange on policies and practices encompassing art, culture, sustainable development and environmental sustainability in France, Europe and internationally;

    – Highlight partnerships involving various stakeholders (institutions, civil society organisations, governmental bodies etc.) coming from diverse disciplines (art, research, science) and in different contexts (local, regional, national, international);

    – Recognise and support the role of arts and culture in relation to environmental sustainability and, more broadly, sustainable development in order to scale up initiatives with adequate support and funding mechanisms;

    – Disseminate a final common pledge developed with the Professional Workshop’s participants and interested parties within the ArtCO21 Conference of Creative Parties;

    – Produce an ad-hoc online toolkit of references and resources shared during the two-day Professional Workshop.

    This workshop is co-curated by COAL, Julie’s Bicycle, IFACCA, On the Move in partnership with IETM, Imagine 2020 and GALA.

    The Workshop also receives contributions from Institut Français in China (Consulat Général de la France à Wuhan) and from the following Foundations: Asia-Europe Foundation, European Cultural Foundation, Hivos and Doen Foundation

    Background documents:

    The Professional Workshop is based on various key initiatives and recommendations’ documents developed by the coordinators of the event such as:

    – D’Art Report 34b, Art and Environmental sustainability, an international overview(by IFACCA-International Federation of Arts Councils and Cultural Agencies and Julie’s Bicycle) http://www.juliesbicycle.com/resources/ifacca-dart-report

    – GALA Funding Guide on funding support for art, culture and environment related projects, within the scope of the EU Funded project GALA-Green Art Lab Alliance http://greenartlaballiance.eu/?page_id=1278

    – IETM and COAL publication, Fresh Perspectives on Art and Environment

    This publication – to be presented during the Professional Workshop – has for objective to highlight practices from the sector through a questionnaire disseminated by COAL-Coalition for Art and Sustainable Development and IETM- International Network for contemporary performing arts. It will also include contributions from Sacha Kagan, Chantal Bilodeau, Marco Kusumawidjaya, Mike van Graan and Yasmine Ostendorf.
