    La Littorale #8 – Biennale d’Art Contemporain d’Anglet

Lauranne Germond, curator of the 8th edition of the Anglet Contemporary Art Biennale, where 12 artists invest the beach and the challenges of biodiversity.

Since 2005, La Littorale, an international biennial of contemporary art Anglet – Basque Coast, combines ocean art around an open-air exhibition, in an exceptional natural setting, the Atlantic coast. The latter serves as a setting for the production of ephemeral and unpublished works combining the beauty of the site with contemporary artistic approaches designed by established artists (such as Tadashi Kawamata, Mathieu Mercier, Didier Marcel or Shaun Gladwell) or representative of the scene. emerging, as evidenced by the invitation to the Palais de Tokyo pavilion at the 5th edition.
La Littorale thus bears witness to the remarkable action taken by the City of Anglet, the third largest city in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department, in favor of contemporary art, for over thirty years.
La Littorale, the appellation chosen for the 6th edition by curator Paul Ardenne for the biennial, highlighted its geographic roots. Over the years, it has established itself as a major event in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region and also found its place at the national level.
The 8th edition, “The foam of the living”, an open-air exhibition on the Anglet coast, where ocean, dunes and cliffs come together, an exceptional and vulnerable natural setting, is an invitation to awaken our senses and our consciousnesses. that ecological issues occupy an omnipresent place in our societies.
This proposal, through an immersive journey of unpublished works in situ by twelve artists, constitutes a sensory poem on the diversity of forms of life that contemporary creation, through its multitude of forms and mediums as well as its appeal to sensitivity. , emotion and imagination is fully able to express. Precisely, this complex relationship to the world, this entanglement of man with nature that only words are insufficient to describe.
Collective, efficient, practicable or more contemplative, surprising, evanescent, the works presented help to diversify approaches and interactions with the public and to create new spaces for dialogue and observation. New reasons to act too.
It is more than ever time to awaken through art and the sensibility, through culture, to the endangered wealth of nature. The Anglet Coast and the Biennale thus become a spatial and temporal digest of this experience and of this dialogue between natural and cultural diversity.
